Olympia Chapter contributes 180 filled school backpacks!

Updated: Sep 9

Olympia (Area Chapter) Military Officers Association of America and North Thurston Public Schools is excited to work together to supply backpacks to students in need at three of thier schools.

“We are thrilled to support the students and military families of North Thurston Public Schools,” said Howard Lim, COL, USA, Ret., member of MOAA and the Olympia Area Chapter. “As former military members ourselves, we are aware of the many challenges that families endure and especially now in these trying times.”

The Olympia Area Chapter received one of 23 grants awarded this year from the National MOAA. The $5000 grant will help children of military families at North Thurston High School, Komachin Middle School and Salish Middle School by providing each school with 60 backpacks filled with school supplies.

“The backpacks will be distributed to military-connected students whose families may be experiencing financial hardship especially due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Karen Remy-Anderson, Executive Director of Special Education and Student Support Services.
